We all love our dogs, don’t we? We like to give them a little delicacy sometimes as well. Some dogs are so cute when they beg for a bit of what you are eating, but the fact is that some foods that are alright for us to eat are not so good for dogs. This ought not come as much of a surprise as you would probably be quite ill too if you ate a half-rotten bird that you found in the long grass.

The main human food that will kill your dog is chocolate or more accurately the theobromine in the chocolate. Some chocolate has more theobromine in it than others. For example, white chocolate has only 1 mg of theobromine per 28 g (1 oz) whereas baking chocolate has 450 mg per 28 g.

So how much theobromine does it take to poison a dog? Well, the response to that depends on several factors like age and health but most significantly the weight of the dog. Let us say that an average, knee-high, collie-type dog weighs 20 kilos (about 45 lbs.), then it would take about 250 kg (560 lbs) of white chocolate to harm him, but he most likely would have exploded by then anyway having eaten 12.5 times his body weight in food.

However, the picture changes quickly when we examine other kinds of chocolate. It would take about 1.5 kg (3 lbs) of milk chocolate to have the same effect and about a third of that in sweet cacao or half-a-kilo (1 lb). The most hazardous substance is baking chocolate. It only takes just over 100g or four and a half ounces of baking chocolate to give a medium sized dog life threatening complications.

Therefore, the greatest danger would be of a dog eating a chocolate cake with chocolate icing or topping. Children are the worst, albeit innocent, culprits: they often give dogs cake at gatherings and it is one to look out for.

So, what should you do if your dog eats chocolate? It depends on the quantity and the quality and your dog. The safest thing would be to take him to the vet as soon as possible, but if you are sure of yourself you could wait for symptoms like vomitting, diarrhea, twitching, seizure, palpitations or undue wetting.

Theobromine attacks a dog’s central nervous system so not all dogs will respond in the same way, but you will certainly notice that your dog is perplexed, befuddled and distressed.

If you make your mind up to treat your dog yourself, the first thing you should do is stimulate vomitting all the while comforting your dog. A 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide should do the trick. Give your dog a teaspoon full if it is under 10 kg and a tablespoon if it is over 10 kg. Give every 15 minutes until it takes effect. After this, try to get some activated carbon into him to soak up any remaining poison. Follow the recommendations on the packet.

If you live miles from anywhere or you think that your dog is at high risk (the school holiday season is the worst), you could get a pet’s first aid box from your vet. They are not dear and have a long shelf life and you will not be caught out if someone feeds your dog chocolate.

Puppies make great pets for most families but their high activity levels may be a bit surprising to some. They need exercise to stay in shape; a 30 to 60 minute walk every day is enough to keep them healthy and fit.

Most of us have busy schedules, however, and it can be hard to find the time to walk a puppy for that long every day. You can still make sure your puppy gets enough exercise by giving him enough room in your yard to run around and play. If space is an issue, you can walk him in the local park or at the high school track.

One fun way to give your puppy some exercise is to train him to run on your treadmill with you. You’ll get to spend time together and you’ll both get some exercise.

It helps greatly to create a plan for getting your puppy the exercise he needs. You’ll be more likely to take the dog for a walk if you’ve budgeted the time in advance. You should also consider your dog’s age; older dogs tend to be happy going for a walk, while puppies are more energetic and tend to like running. When walking a puppy, start out with 15 minute exercise sessions then gradually lengthen this time as the dog matures.

Some people find that it’s convenient to walk their dogs at night. If you decide to do this, wear reflective or bright-colored clothing so that drivers will be able to see you.

When taking a puppy out for some exercise, the best time is right before or right after he eats. Puppies get thirsty after playing for awhile, but be sure to give him small amounts of water so that he doesn’t fill up and get an upset stomach.

When you finish your walk and arrive back home, check the dog’s paws for sharp objects that may be stuck in them. Glass, rocks, and burrs have a habit of getting stuck in paws, and you should remove them as soon as possible once you notice them.

Dogs love to play fetch, and it can also give them some great exercise. You can teach a puppy to play fetch by rolling a toy near him and rewarding him when he returns it to you. As the puppy gets older, you can throw the toy farther away. Just remember to always praise him when he brings the toy back.

In today’s society dog’s have a multitude of roles to play when interacting with humans, from assisting the blind to guarding your property, as a sole companion for somebody to pulling sleds across unforgiving terrain, Dog’s are probably the most versatile of all the domesticated animals.

Some Dog facts that you probably do not know:-

It is not as common as we are led to believe that dogs kill humans regularly, the figures are more likely to be 1 in 4 million.

There is a 20% chance of boys aged between 5 and 9 getting bitten than any other person in the general population, (just something to consider if you have children and would like a dog.,

Records show that falls caused by pets in the United States are actually caused 88 out of 100 times by dogs.

Dogs have such good vision that they can spot their owners from great distances away.

A dog’s vision is very sensitive to motion but not as sensitive when it comes to stationary objects.

Dogs have over 18 muscles in their ears which allow the ear to rotate and tilt, this allows the dog to pick up sounds very easily and quickly; far in advance of human hearing.

A dog’s wet nose allows it to determine the direction of the wind allowing it to pick up a source of smells very quickly; they can also detect smells far lower than a human is able to do.

Some dogs have even lived in excess of 20 years old.

Record numbers of cats and dogs end up in animal shelters every year, the records report this to be somewhere in the region of 8 million, out of these 50% never return once they have entered these places.

Dogs can mature very quickly; normally around the 6 to 12 month cycle, so unless you are planning on breeding them, then it would be advisable to have them neutered or spayed as soon as you can.

Aside from pets, this writer additionally frequently publishes information on retractable id badge holder and name tag.

It's annoying when our dogs scratch and their hairs fly everywhere. Here are a few things that could be causing the irritation.

It’s annoying when our dogs scratch and their hairs fly everywhere. Here are a few things that could be causing the irritation.

The first one is those irritating mites all pet lovers are aware of; the flea. You dog may have an infestation or have an allergy to flea bites. See if there are any fleas visible on your pets coat its an infestation.

Once you have established whether you pet is infested or not, a good flea control method should be used. It will kill fleas if they are present, but should also take care of a flea bite allergy.

Dogs can suffer from many different kinds of skin ailments. The common symptoms are red moist skin or maybe an odor. These can be caused by fungi, bacteria and even bites from other bugs. A special shampoo may do the trick, if it doesn’t you may need an antibacterial medicine from your vet.

Watch your dog when he scratches? Is he losing fur? If he is, mange could be the cause of his discomfort.

As soon as you think there is a possibility of Mange, take your pet to the vet as he will need to take some skin scrapings. Tests at a lab will reveal whether there are mites present and appropriate medication prescribed.

When you have dismissed all these possibilities it’s time to look a little closer to home. Your dog may have a common allergy to plants, pollen, dust or even certain types of food.

See if there is any kind of pattern to his scratching. If he scratches more in the summer months it could well be a pollen or grass allergy.

It can take a long time to pin down the cause of your pets itching, but is well worth it as you will have a healthy and much happier dog who is free of that irritating itch.

Your child could be the kind who gets excited each time he or she visits a little pet shop, this will not exactly be because she loves all the animals she sees there but maybe due to all the lovable responses she gets from the animals in the little pet shop. However the basic drawback that you as a parent should face is in selecting just the best pet for your youngster, because your little one doesn’t as of now have the ability to decide which pet would be most suited to his or her personality and what kind of a pet they might be most comfortable with. So the next time you go to a little pet shop in Malaysia, or perhaps a cat pet store, don’t just pick up the first rabbit or the first kitten that your child finds cute, there are some important things that you should take into account first.

Among the first issues that you need to bear in mind when you are taking your youngster to a little pet store or a cat pet shop in Malaysia to buy a pet is the size of the pet that you’d buy for your child. Of course a very small little one will not be able to take care of a big pet well and will not even be able to enjoy such a pet, and will even discover the pet intimidating. If your little one is small, maybe a small kitten from a cat pet store could be the best size of a pet to buy.

Also, as it is important that you inculcate in your youngster the best idea about how well your pet needs to be taken care of on a daily basis, and must be groomed well, you even have to make sure yourself of what extent of responsibility your youngster himself can handle. If your child thinks that a big shaggy canine could be the right pet for him from the first little pet store that you go to, it may not be such a good idea to get one because you’ll be the one ending up doing all of the grooming and the taking care of, because your child won’t be old enough to tackle the responsibility.

Also, if your youngster is not old enough but to take his or her pet walking every day, then maybe you should not get the type of pet that needs a daily exercise in the sense of a daily walk. Wouldn’t it be so much better and would make your job simpler by just getting your child a pet hamster or even a kitten from the cat pet shop in order that you do not your self have to take time out of your busy schedule to go take your kid’s pet for a walk.

So relying in your child’s age and how responsible your little one is (which you will know best) you should decide which pet can be most fitted to his or her personality.

Through searching on the site you will be able to search out whatever kind of pet retailers that you are seeking, whether or not a little pet store in Malaysia with some of the most common animals on sale, or more specifically a cat pet store in Malaysia if that’s what your child needs and even pet outlets that are known for the exotic animals that they have on sale.

If you have been a pet lover all of your life and would love to associate your future business with animals, the opening up a pet store in Malaysia is of course the obvious choice there’s for you. Nonetheless, In case you have indeed decided that a pet retailer is the business that you want to run, then there are also a couple of things that you have to make sure of and also decide before you can begin something concrete.

First of all for instance, you have to determine what sort of a pet store it’s that you wish to operate. You can open up a pet retailer that’s one that only houses different sorts of animals, so that they’ll find a home and an owner soon, or you could even just stock pet shop supplies in Malaysia which can be an effective way of doing your bit for the animal world. Better still, You may actually open up a pet retailer with both these options, which implies that you could not only house animals but you could even stock your store with pet shop supplies- whichever suits you better and whatever kind of resources you have, because housing pets means that there are lots of expenditure that needs to be taken care of as well. Also, this decision must be based on what sort of competition from other pet store and pet store supplies shops that you’ll be facing in your area and then make your decision based on what you assume will suit your enterprise concerns best.

Also, before you make all your last confirmations as far as opening the pet store is concerned, you have to also first undergo all of the regulations and guidelines that are set by your state so that you can find out what all the legalities are of keeping pets in your pet store and even regarding the pet shop supplies. When you discover for some reason that you can’t possibly maintain all the necessary requirements that the state requires of you, the best decision for you would be to not go ahead with the plan.

After you are clear about the type of pet retailer that you want to run and you are certain about the legalities of running such a business, the funds are the next important thing that you should take care of. You also should firstly decide whether you plan on just purchasing an already existing pet store because there are other options as well, such as opening up a pet retailer franchise and even starting your own retailer from the fundamentals of opening up a new business.

In any case, a commercial mortgage is perhaps step one that you should take financially in case you do not have already the kind of funds needed. There are of course those overhead bills of maintain a Vet, vaccines and medicine if you are keeping pets in your store.

These above steps should set you on your way to opening a profitable pet store.

Our pet retailer gives to all customers the lowest costs on all pet store supplies in spite of the highest notch quality that we guarantee, in fact you will not discover the type of pet store supplies that we provide our clients for the costs that we give them away at; ours is the most competitive prices online.

Border Terrier\’s are known for their jumping ability and agility. They are very intelligent with a level temperament. Many times you will see Border Terrier\’s as therapy dogs due to their capacity for independent thinking.

Borders love to run so daily trips to the park or out for a long run is just what the Border Terrier needs to keep them active. Natural born foxhunters they were used back in the day to flush the foxes, otters and badgers out of their holds. It\’s always amazing to see this quick dog in action and jumping despite their how short their legs are.

Beware of these little runners, they have been known to chase many a small animal like cats, mice and others. It\’s in their blood but you can break the habit if the Border Terrier is raised with the animal. But when you are outside your domain, keep an eye on them because they can disappear in a flash if something catches their eye.

If you become the owner of a Border Terrier, best to make sure that you keep all small stuffed toys and such away from this little guy. They love to chew on toys and have been known to consume a toy here and there. If you Border Terrier becomes listless or uninterested in affection or has trouble sleeping have him checked to make sure he has not ingested something.

The funny thing about these active dogs is that sometimes on a walk, they like to also sit and watch all the activity going on around them. They will often stop and lay in the grass to take a rest and at times it\’s difficult to get them up and going when you are ready. They do have a stubborn side that often displays itself when they are tired.

As with all breeds, these dogs tend to be prone to cataracts, retinal disease and hip Dysplasia. Seizures and juvenile diabetes are also an issues and it\’s very important to know that they are very sensitive to anesthetics however they are slow to put under despite their small size. This little dynamo can also have a high threshold of pain so if injured you might not even know.

Border Terrier\’s fall in the medium size category weighing in at between 11 and 15 pounds with the females usually weighing the least. Their coats are dirt and weather resistant that requires a weekly brushing. They do shed but the weekly brushing can help with this issue as well as hand stripping a couple of time a year.

Border Terriers respond well the command training. If you work with your dog as a puppy, you are more likely to curb their impulsive nature to bolt. Their eagerness to please their owners is a genuine quality of the Border Terrier. And don\’t forget the exercise regimen and that too will help to tire them out.

Border Terrier\’s can be a nice addition to you family, just remember their limitations. Socializing your dog early on can minimize the confrontational attitude of this dog. While it\’s not displayed often, it can occur so keep a watchful eye on your new pup and all should go well.

If you have a dog that is driving you crazy up all night chewing and itching, then he most likely is suffering from an allergy to fleas. Sounds ridiculous but it\’s more common than you think. For some dogs, this can turn into a serious problem, especially if left untreated.

You can see something like this start in your puppy but it is also very common in much older dogs. The adult flea does the biting but they don\’t live long unless they are on the host dog. Hmmm, is that supposed to make you feel better?

Did you know that adult fleas are the only ones that bite? Once they fall off the host dog or cat, they don\’t live. That\’s good to know, however, the process continues because the adult flea leaves behind eggs that will hatch and continue the process.

If you want to keep your dog flea free, then you need to continue treatment. The symptoms can be painful to the dog and an annoyance to the owners. This chronic condition left untreated can lead to behavioral problems in your pet as well.

Constant itching and chewing is a sure sign of fleas on your dog. You can also search the dog to see if you notice the fleas themselves or flea dirt. Your vet might also want to test a skin scrapping for mites if no fleas are visible.

Fleas can also bite humans so if you think you might have an infestation in the house or yard, it\’s best to treat those areas as well. Really it only takes a couple of bites to set your dog\’s flea allergy in motion. Treating the dog without treating the home or yard can just lead to another infestation.

Help your dog get relief from this itchy allergy by taking immediate action. Treat them with a dip or flea shampoo and a continued application monthly of the topical applied to the back of the neck. You dog will surely thank you, if he could!

Quick diagnosis and treatment will help relive your dog from his suffering. Chewing and itching along with hair loss are sure signs of a flea allergy. Additionally you might see lesions in numerous places over the dog\’s body.

More serious infestations might require multiple treatments before results are noticed. Continued monthly treatments will eventually take affect ridding your dog of those nasty little nuisances. And you will see a happy healthier dog for all your efforts.

Mange is an itchy, inflammatory disease caused by the mite Demodex. Making a determination of which mite your dog is infected with can determine the seriousness of mange. Typically mange in dogs is referred to as Demodicosis.

Mange can cause immune system problems, lesions and genetic disorders if left untreated. Both cats and dogs are known to contract this uncomfortable disease. Your dog\’s side effects will be different depending on which mite your pet is infected with.

Determining which type of mange your dog or cat has is the first thing your vet will do. Localized mange is typically found in certain parts of the body only. Generalized mange is found over the entire body and can be very difficult to cure and treatment is an ongoing thing.

If you see small patches of lesions around your dog\’s legs, face or trunk, then he probably has the milder form, which is localized mange. Generalized mange will appear over the whole body in the form of redness on the skin accompanied by the patches of lesions. Doctors will say that there is no known cause for mange however; some feel that immune system problems can prompt this disease in your dog.

It is believed that one form of mite can be transferred from the mother to the baby via nursing. There are to other forms of mites and it is not yet known how those mites are transferred. Demodex canis gets into the hair follicle of the pet causing this transmission during nursing.

There are a couple of ways to diagnosis demodectic mange in your dog or cat. Either a sample of urine can be tested if that is available, but also by testing a piece of scraped skin. Another possibility could be that your dog may have a bacterial infection of the hair follicle instead of mange.

Generalized mange can be the hardest to cure. You have the option of the lime-sulphur dip and continuous medication, which should alleviate some of the discomfort. In the more severe cases, it should be ascertained what type of life the dog will have to endure with this chronic condition, then determine the best solution for your dog.

Skin scrapings are necessary to continue testing the dog during its treatment to determine that the mites have been eliminated. If your dog is diagnosed with mange, it is important that you are diligent with the prescribed treatment. This will enable you to keep the spread of the disease under control.

As with any chronic condition, it is suggested that you not breed a dog with chronic mange. Prevention may be as easy as maintaining the good health of your pet. Regular bathing and grooming and healthy diet can help prevent the onset of mange.

Dermatophilosis is a skin disease that animals can get no matter the age or gender, although the symptoms may vary. Usually contracted from farm animals like sheep, cows and horses, it is more prevalent in humid and warm climates. Typically, dogs with wet skin that have infestations like fleas and ticks have increased risk.

If you scratch off an infected area of the yellow crust, you will notice that there are many hairs underneath due to the follicle being impacted. This condition is very common in dog and cats. It is best to get your pet to the vet for testing to stop the spreading.

Testing from the vet is necessary for a diagnosis. If the dog is scratching a lot and you notice pus from this area, it more than likely is Dermatophilosis. Proper diagnosis is needed to determine treatment.

Make sure that you let the vet know that your pet has been around farm animals. The vet will sample the infected area through testing. Upon a determination of Dermatophilosis, the vet will prescribe proper treatment.

This condition can transfer to humans so we suggest you wear protective gloves when administering medication. Your vet might prescribe a certain shampoo for your dog if the condition is not too severe. As with all medications, read the directions and be consistent with treatment.

For severe cases, your vet might prescribe an antibiotic to be given orally over a number of days. Typically, penicillin is prescribes but any type of antibiotic will work. Be sure that you are constant with the prescribed medication in order to achieve results.

It is likely that the vet will schedule a follow-up appointment to check the dog\’s progress. Usually they will give about 2 or 3 weeks for the medication to take affect. Continue to watch your dog during this time to make sure that the condition does not worsen.

With skin conditions like this, you want to be extra careful. It is possible for the dog to pass this condition onto a caregiver or a family member if they suffer from an immune deficiency. Take caution if necessary and quarantine the dog in a safe place away from people.

There are precautions you should take when dealing with topical medications. We suggest that you wear rubber gloves while shampooing your dog to protect you against the transfer of this condition. Following the logical steps will keep you and your family safe.
